Hey ladies in the place I’m callin’ out to ya. There never was a city kid truer and bluer. There’s more to me than you’ll ever know, and I’ve got more hits than Sadaharu Oh. -Beastie Boys
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! They’re turning Japanese, I think they’re turning Japanese, I really think so. I don’t care. If they can play, trot ‘em out there. Like my main Red Auerbach always says, “Black, white, or whatever, we didn’t give a damn. If you could play, you could play, and that’s the way we were.”
The Red Sox outbid the Texas Rangers, New York Mets, and New York Yankees to attain Dice-K. Gy-ro-myte! The Red Sox later signed lesser known Hideki Okajima. Okie: “I’m willing to be a hero in the dark.” That he was. It was he, not D-Nice, that was named to the All Star team in their rookie seasons. In a controversial move, the Red Sox just signed pitcher Junichi Tazawa. Tazawa elected to forgo a professional career in Japan so he could play in the United States. Now the Sox have their sight on another guy. The Sox now have their sights on Kenshin Kawakami.
With the final spot in the Sox rotation up for grabs, and names like Justin Masterson, Clay Buchholz and free agent John Smoltz among the possibilities, Boston’s interests turn East. Their interest in Kawakami continues to grow. This should come as no surprise.
This foray into Asia is not some passing fad. Not like Bobby Knight in plaid. This is just the launching pad. The Boston Red Sox have formed an alliance with Bobby Valentine’s team. The Chiba Lotte Marines of Japan’s Pacific League. Imagine me and you, I do. I think about you day and night. It’s only right. So happy together. Together, they will share player evaluations and statistical analysis. Besides sharing scouting reports, the clubs will exchange coaches, training staff and front-office personnel. They will develop baseball in China and other Asian nations. Red Sox general manager, Theo Epstein, said it’s possible Red Sox minor leaguers could go to Japan to play. Yowza! It really is quadruple A ball.
Public Spectacle:
Kenshin Kawakami the next Hiroki Kuroda (Viva El Birdos)
Peace out homies. Six two and even!
