Football coach Bear Bryant once brought USC running back Sam Bam Cunningham into the Alabama locker room after a game and told his players, “This is what a football player looks like.” Well, take a look at the picture above. That my friends, is what a basketball player looks like.
New York Knicks’ David Lee. Playing with tenacity, brutality, dexterity, electricity, ferocity, invincibility. Doing it all so nastily. You saw him. You saw him last night. You saw him last night in the Knicks/Bulls game. You say him put up eleven big points. You saw him pull down fifteen big boards. David Lee has now Lee has scored at least eleven points and grabbed at least eleven rebounds in each of his last ten games. Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say, that matched my hometown hero Patrick Ewing for the longest such streak by a Knicks player since the NBA-ABA merger in 1976. I say that’s pretty dang good.
David Lee is doing all the things big fat Eddie Curry couldn’t or wouldn’t do. He hustles. He muscles. He gets in tussles. David Lee is the beneficiary of Big Fat Eddie spending big fat time on the big fat inactive list. If Eddie Curry were smart, he’d watch and learn from David Lee ’cause that is what a basketball player looks like.
