Leodis McKelvin: Return To Sender

Return to sender, address unknown.  No such number, no such zone.  -Elvis Presley

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  What a game, what a game!  Phil Dawson nails a fifty-six yard field-goal 1:39 left to boost the Cleveland Browns over the hapless Buffalo Bills.  But that’s not what moved me.  Not what grooved me.  Not what J-Schmoved me.  Leodis McKelvin did that.

I was expecting a big return.  A Billy White Shoes Johnson return.  A Dante Hall return.  A David Meggett return.  A Mel Gray return.  I just wasn’t expecting it from this guy.  I wasn’t expecting it from Leodis McKelvin.

I was expecting it from Joshua Cribbs.  Josh Cribbs is to special teams what LeBron James is to basketball.  Witness!  Witness this.  Three weeks ago, Cribbs took a ninety-two yard kickoff back to the hizzy.  Back to the hizzy for his fourth consecutive season.  Big deal you say?  Who cares you say?  I say, that ties an NFL record.  I say, only Bobby Mitchell and Dante Hall were able to accomplish that feat.  I also say, Cribbs is the only cat in NFL history with a TD return in each of his first four seasons.  He didn’t return one last night

I was expecting it from Roscoe Parrish.  You give Roscoe Parrish space, Roscoe Parrish hurts you.  He’s been hurting folks all season.  He’s been hurting folks his whole career.  Parrish’s career average of 13.5 yards per punt return, is the highest in NFL history.  Devin Hester who?  Horton hears a what?  Hester’s 6.2-yard average this season has lowered his career mark to only 12.9.  Roscoe Parrish didn’t return one last night.

I wasn’t expecting it from Leodis McKelvin.  Leodis McKelvin took over for Terrence McKee as the Bills primary kick returner in the second week of the season.   Going into last night’s game, McKelvin ranked 10th in the NFL.  Going into last night’s game McKelvin hadn’t brought one back to the hizzouse.  He had an 85-yarder just last week.  Not good enough.

Good enough last night.  After the Browns took a 23-13 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter, McKelvin answered.  Knock knock.  Who’s there?  Leodis McKelvin, that’s who!  McKelvin, who tied an NCAA record with eight return touchdowns while at Troy University, answered with a he…could…go…all…the…way moment.  “I’ve been waiting for that chance since Week One.”  He got it.

Public Spectacle:

Peace out homies.  Six Two and Even!
