There we do just as we please.  It ain’t nothin’ but a breeze.  -Jimmy Buffet

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  The New Orleans Saints did what they needed to do.  They played to win the game.  They succeeded.  They beat a struggling Kansas City Chiefs squad who have won only one game all season.  Poor Herm Edwards:  “I don’t care if you don’t have any wins.  You go play to win.  When you start tellin’ me it doesn’t matter, then retire.  Get out!  ’Cause it matters!”

It matters to Drew Brees.  As the Saints try and make their way through this season, Drew Brees is making his way into the record books.  Yesterday, Brees passed for 266 yards.  That increased his total for the season to 3251 yards.  That’s a record.  Last season, Brees missed breaking the previous record, set by Rich Gannon.  Big deal you say?  Who cares you say?  I say, the only other players to pass for 3000 yards in their team’s first ten games in two different seasons were Dan Fouts and Drew Bledsoe.  Yowza!  Butch from the Cape would be proud.

That’s not the only record Big Daddy Drew Brees is gunning for.  If the New Orleans Saints quarterback averages 300 yard per game for the final six games, he will bypass Hall of Famer Dan Marino to eclipse the season passing yards record of 5,084 yards set in 1984.  Now that’s a record.  A big record.  A homerun king record.

It’s more than that.  Dan Marino set the record with Miami back in 1984.  Second place belongs to Kurt Warner, who threw for 4,830 with Greatest Show on Turf in 2001.  In third is my boy, Tom Brady, who threw for 4,806 yards last season with the juggernaught New England Patriots.  What do all these teams have in common?  C’mon.  You know.  Those teams all ended up playing in a Super Bowl.
