Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Some people say I wanna fill the world with silly glove songs. And what’s wrong with that? I’d like to know. ’Cause here I go, again. One question. A simple one really. How is it that Kevin Youkilis does not get a Gold Glove? How? He just may be the best defensive player in all of baseball. It’s a travesty. It’s a travesty of a mockery of a sham of a mockery of a travesty of two mockeries of a sham.
When Youk played first, he was the best first baseman in baseball. When Youk played third, he was the best third baseman in baseball. When Youk was in the outfield, he was the best outfielder in baseball. Terry Francona: “He just looks at the lineup card…he doesn’t care. He’ll play third, he’ll play first, he’s gone to the outfield a couple of times. He just does it. And he helps us win.”
Maybe that’s what did him in. Maybe he was just hurt by his own versatility. I know he was limited to just 109 starts at first. I know because Mikey Lowell went down, Youk had to play thirty-two games at third. I Know. I don’t care. With Pena’s injury, Carlos only played seven more games over there. That’s what you’re gonna bother me about. Seven games? You’re gonna bother me about a steak? What are you doin’? It’s no good. It defeats its own purpose.
If you saw the ALDS, you saw all you need to see to prove Youk’s defensive prowess. I know it was the post season, I’m just saying. I’m just saying it’s representative of what he did all year. If you saw Kevin Youkilis at third base make two Mike Schmidt Buddy Bell Brooks Robinson-like plays in the ninth inning of a playoff game, you know how good this cat truly is. He just makes all the plays, all the time. Makes plays if Carlos Pena ever dreamed of making, he better wake up and apologize. Carlos should apologize anyway. He knows.
If it’s any consolation, Youk did win the American League Hank Aaron Award for best offensive performance this year. I guess that’s something. Youk deserved more.

I tend to agree…a travesty that Youk was robbed. What an amazing player he’s been for the team, year in and year out. And with each passing season, he reminds me why he’s my favorite player. He will always deserve more.
youk is the heart and soul of the red sox. and i meant what i said, homer or not, youk is the best fdefensive player baseball.
HOMER, I thought we went over this yesterday ? So what i say ! Who cares I say !! You give new meaning to the word HOMER who cares you say ? So what you say ? do you know the only other player to have 4 count em 4 errors at one position and 3 at another position and still win the Gold Glove?? Me neither!!!
