Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Something gnew. No gnews is good gnews. Do I have some good gnews for you. From now on, every Friday, in this space, we will be giving out the Brass Bonanza. A dubious award at best.
First, a little history. Brass Bonanza was the Hartford Whalers fight song. That should tell you all you need to know about this award. This award is given to the week’s biggest loser. Due to the Award’s roots in hockey, I thought it only fitting the inagural award go to a hockey player. Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of awards. This week’s Brass Bonanza goes to Alexander Ovechkin.
A lean mean scoring machine. Not this year. Alexander O-vechkin. As in 0 goals. Last night, El Ocho was held without a goal. Again. He’s now scored only two goals in the Capitals‘ first ten games this season. Egads man! Big deal you say? Who cares you say? I say, only one other player in NHL history has scored as few goals in his team’s first ten games when coming off a season of sixty or more goals. I say, only Reggie Leach. Reggie Leach had only two goals in the Flyers‘ first ten games in the 1976-77 season. The season after he had sixty-one.
The Brass Bonanza Award:
Peace out homies. Six two and Even!
