You know it’s true. Everything I do, I do it for you. -Bryan Adams
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! With the Vikings, Tyler Thigpen could not compete with Brooks Bollinger. He could not compete with Tarvaris Jackson. Heck, he couldn’t even compete with Drew Henson. Last year, the Vikings released Thigpen thinking they could throw him on their practice squad. They thought wrong. He was signed by the Chiefs the following day.
Now, Thigpen’s making history. Just not with his arm. Yes, he just completed his second straight effective performance. Yes, he seems calm, cool and collected. Yes, he’s played well enough to win in Chiefs losses. But dearly beloved, that’s not why we are gathered here today.
Yesterday afternoon, Yancey Tyler Thigpen caught a 37-yard touchdown pass from Mark Bradley in the Chiefs’ loss. A pass he had dropped when the Chiefs tried it in practice. But this wasn’t practice. You listening AI? It was the longest TD reception by a starting quarterback in the NFL’s expansion era, dating back to 1960. Yowza! Kordell Stewart never did that. Although Slash did set an NFL record for longest touchdown run by a quarterback with an 80-yard rush. No, the previous mark was a 23-yard scoring reception by John Elway from RB Steve Sewell in 1986. You remember that catch. With that catch, Elway became first quarterback in Super Bowl history to make a catch. Catch-22. Catch a falling star an’ put it in your pocket. Never let it fade away! Thigpen won’t let this one fade away. Neither will his teammates. Tony Gonzales: “He’s on his way…He keeps playing like that, man, who knows?”
Public Spectacle:
Peace out homies. Six Two and Even!
