I seem to lean on old familiar ways. And I ain’t no fool for love songs that whisper in my ears. Still crazy after all these years. Oh, still crazy after all these years. -Paul Simon
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! We interrupt this regularly scheduled Red Sox broadcast to bring some football. Some NFL football. Some Green Bay Packers football. Some Charles Woodson football.
You remember Charles. You remember when he led the Meeeeechigan Wolverines to a National Championship in a haze of Maize and Blue. You remember he was the only primary defensive player to have won the Heisman Trophy. You remember that in his first season with the Oakland Raiders he was selected as the NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year. Of course you do. How could you forget?
This season, Charles Woodson is making sure you don’t forget. This week against the Colts, Woodson is out to make sure Peyton Manning doesn’t forget either. Doesn’t forget why Peyton was Heismanned by the Heisman coming out of Tennessee. Heismanned by Woodson. Sunday they meet at Lambeau. They meet at Lambeau with Woodson coming fresh off an NFC Defensive Player of the Month for September. They meet at Lambeau with Woodson tied for the NFL lead with four interceptions. Four big interceptions. Four interceptions coming in the fourth quarter of games. Two of them, brought back to the hizzy. Yowza! And as gaudy as those interception numbers are, it’s his fifteen pass deflections that stick out most. If he’s not intercepting the ball, he’s disrupting the pass. If he’s not disrupting the pass he’s coming in on a blitzkrieg bop. Charles Woodson just may be the best defensive back in football. On a broken toe! And Jerry Glanville says not for long.
Peace out homies. Six two and even!
Need More? Charles Woodson, Green Bay Packers, NFL
