Do that to me one more time. Once is never enough with a man like you. Do that to me one more time. I can never get enough of a man like you. -Captain & Tennille
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Big Papi. My favorite two words in the dictionary. The most feared hitter in all of baseball. The most cheered hitter in all of baseball. The most endeared hitter in all of baseball. Finally!
Finally, it has happened to me. Right in front of my face, my feelin’s can’t describe it. Finally it has happened to me. Right in front of my face and I just cannot hide it. Finally, Big Papi is back. No, not tonight. But soon. Real soon. Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz just played his first scheduled rehab assignment with the Triple A Pawtucket Red Sox last night.
Papi! Papi! Papi! With a 1-2 count in the fourth inning, Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz called for time and then just crushed one into the right field bullpen at McCoy Stadium. Hasta la vista baby. Woo doggie! Music to my ears. The biggest badddest big time hitter that’s ever been borned is back. The biggest baddest big time hitter that’s ever been borned is back after leaving a big hole in the middle of the Red Sox line-up. A colossal hole. A gargantuan hole. A monstrous hole. A World Series hole. A hole JD Drew could not alone cannot fill.
Drew did fill in admirably, quite admirally. Admirally TJ Bulldog Parker. Validated by his selection as All-Star MVP Tuesday night in the House that Ruth Built. But he can’t do it for the long haul. The strong haul. The Genghis Khan haul. When crunch time come around you want Big Papi in there. When round house punch time comes around, you want Big Papi in there.
Ortiz has been on the shelf since May 31. On the shelf due to a partial tear of the sheath that surrounds the tendon in his left wrist. But he’s baaaaack. He’ll play two more games in Pawtucket. Then, he’ll play three more games in Double-A Portland. Then, he’s expected to return to the Red Sox on July 25. Hooray. Just in time for the Yankees. Hooray Red Sox! Hooray Big Papi!
Sing it with me people. Follow the bouncing ball. Happy days are here again. The skies above are clear again. So lets sing a song of cheer again. Happy days are here again!
