K Rod: Rewriting History

Mister Trouble never hangs around when he hears this Mighty sound:  Here I come to save the day!  -Mighty Mouse

Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Move over Mariano.  Dare I say it?  Move over Pap.  Move over cool dogs, a hot dog’s movin’ in.  K-Rod’s movin’ in.

K-Rod’s movin’ in all right.  Movin’ in and makin’ history.  Takin’ history.  Shakin’ history.  Shook history last night.  Last night, Francisco Rodriguez became the first pitcher in the bigs to nail down thirty saves this season.  To rail down thirty saves this season.  To prevail down thirty saves this season.

Big deal you say?  Who cares you say?  I say, it’s the earliest in a season that a pitcher has ever accumulated 30 saves, ever.  I say the earliest by date, ever.  I say, the earliest by the number of games played by his team, ever.  I say, the previous marks were both held by Danny Graves of the 2004 Reds

K-Rod has always been good.  Real good.  Led the American League in saves two out of the last three seasons.  This year, he’s even better.  This year, he made an adjustment in his delivery.  Stopped going to the Korova milkbar.  You know, took a bit of the old ultra-violence out it.  Now his cheese is back.  Back in the New York  LA groove.  Back in the 93-94 mph range.  His Uncle Charlie is mesmerizing.  It’s tantalizing.  Captivating.  Devastating.  Put those two pitches together with his improving changeup.  His serious third weapon.  Now you’re talking.

Now you’re talking about a guy who has been as close to perfect in save situations as you’re ever gonna see.  A guy who is a serious threat to break Bobby Thigpen’s single season save record of fifty-seven.  A guy who may even catch Trevor Hoffman’s career save record of 539 and counting.  You’re talking about K-Rod.  You’re talking about the best closer in baseball today.  That’s what I’m talking about.
