Public Service Announcement:  Ok, here we go!  Tonight’s the night.  Lakers/Celtics.  The history.  The thrills.  The spills.  Oh, the humanity!  I want this one.  I want this one real bad like.  I don’t just want it for me.  Oh no.  That would be selfish.  I want this one for the Truth. 

The truth is, I want this one for Paul Pierce.  You know what?  This one.  This one right here.  This was my dream.  My wish.  And it didn’t come true.  So I’m taking it back.  Paul Pierce has been a Celtic his entire career.  Ten years he’s been a Celtic.  Ten years and his dream still has not come true.  Time to take it back.  It’s my time to shine.  Been down for much too long.  I’ve gotta get mine.  Paul Pierce has got to get his.  The Legend thinks so too:  “In Boston they always talk about how many championships you’ve won, so I think it’s very important for Paul to win one if he wants to be put up there with the great ones.” 

Paul Pierce wants to be put up there with the great ones.   Don’t believe me?  Ask King James.  King James witnessed it.  King James witnessed it in game Seven against his Cleveland Cavaliers.  King James witnessed Pierce score forty-one big points in a big Game Seven against the big Cleveland Cavaliers.  Get on my back boys! 

Still don’t believe me?  Ask Flip Saunders.  Flip Saunders saw Pierce take over in the fourth quarter of Game Six against his Deetroit Basketball Pistons.  Took over in the fourth quarter and expunged Deetroit’s ten-point lead in minutes.  Minutes, I tell you.  Took over in the fourth quarter of Game Six against Deetroit Basketball and carried the Celtics to the Promised Land.  Took over in the fourth quarter of Game Six against Deetroit Basketball and carried Flip to the ranks of the unemployed.   

He’s come a long way baby!  A long way from being the best player on the worst team.  A long way from ripping off his shirt against the Indiana Pacers.  A long way from missing those two free throws against the New Jersey Nets.  For too long Pierce had been underrated.  For too long Pierce has gone unadulated.  For too long his legacy as a Celtic has been debated.  The time is now.  Paul Pierce has paid his dues.  Time after time.  He’s done his sentence, but committed no crime.  Bad mistakes.  He’s made a few.  He’s had his share of sand kicked in his face.  But he’s come through.  He’s coming through tonight.  And that’s the double Truth, Ruth!
