Public Knowledge

If we value the pursuit of knowledge, we must be free to follow wherever that search may lead us. The free mind is not a barking dog, to be tethered on a ten-foot chain.  -Adlai E. Stevenson

Public Knowledge:

1.  Adrian Peterson.  All Day.  A couple weeks back I said Patrick Willis was the best rookie in the NFL.  Like Fonzie, I was wrrrrr.  I was wrrrrrr.   I was wrong.  You saw him Sunday.  All Day, he ran roughshod over the Chargers.  All Day, he humiliated the Chargers.  All Day, he subdued the number seven rush defense in the National Football League.  Subdued the number seven rush defense in the National Football League to the tune of 296 yards.  Yowza!  Two players have won two consecutive NFL Rookie of the Month awards.  But Peterson is well on his way to a third in a row.  That is something that has not been done since the award started in 1996.  Jevon Kearse won the award three times in 1999, but not in three consecutive months.  A Rookie for the ages.  Eric Dickerson.  The Edge.  Billy Sims.  Otis My Man Anderson.  All Day.

2.  One more time.  We’re gonna celebrate.  Oh yeah, alright.  Don’t stop the dancin’.  One more time.  Sources indicate last night that 38 Pitches and the Red Sox are close to striking a deal that would bring the pitcher back for one more season.  I like it.  I like it a lot.

3.  Another one bites the dust.  And another one gone, and another one gone.  Another one bites the dust.  Hey, I’m gonna get you too.  Another one bites the dust.  Little Andy Petite has declined his $16 million option with the New York Yankees and is still uncertain whether he wants to pitch next season.  The beginning of the end.  No, my B.  The ending of the end.  The beginning of the end was back in ‘04 when Dave Roberts stole second.  That was the beginning of the end.

4.  I can’t wait for week fifteen.  I can’t wait for December sixteenth.  That’s when the Patriots play the Jets again.  You think you’ve seen beatings so far?  What you see is what you get.  And you ain’t seen nothing yet.  This what’s going to happen to the Jets:

5.  I love Chris Paul’s game.  I loved it since he stuffed the rock back down Amare’s throat.  Simple and plain.  Give me the lane.  I’ll throw it down your throat like Barkley.  See these car keys.  You’ll never get these.  They belong to the CP3 posse.  Did you see him Sunday?  What’s My Line?  Sunday, Chris Paul put together a monster, all-around line.  Sunday against Denver, CP3 went for 15 points.  CP3 went for 11 dimes.  CP3 went for eight boards and four steals.  Now that’s what a basketball player looks like.

6.  Tank Johnson was activated by the Dallas CowboysChris Henry was activated by the Cincinnati Bengals.  What’s next?  OJ activated by the Buffalo Bills7.  Sugar Ray Allen sank a tiebreaking three-pointer with less than three seconds left in overtime to lead the Boston Celtics to an OT victory Sunday against the Toronto Raptors.  It’s beginning to look like it used to look like.  Celtics winning big time games with big time shots by big time players.

8.  John Russell named skipper of the Pittsburgh Pirates.  What do you think about that little buddy?  Not much.  Never heard of him.  Vaguely heard of the Pirates.  Shave his belly with a rusty razor.  Early in the morning.  Oh, and by the way, why does Pittsburgh wear a Public Enemy hat?

9.  Runs in the family.  I love the return.  I love Devin Hester the Very Bester.  The Bullet Proof Vester.  The Pound your Chester.  I love Billy White Shoes Johnson.  I love Mel Grey.  I love Dante Hall.  I love Neon Deon.  I love Eric Metcalf.  I love Alabama’s Javier Arenas.  Roll Tide, Roll!  Gilbert’s cousin.  Saturday, Arenas took one look up and said:  “All I seen was green, man.”  And away we go!

10. Is it too soon to be talking about Memphis Basketball?  They’re gonna be awesome baby!  Diaper Dandy point guard Derrick Rose is a real PTPer.  He and coach John Calipari have the supporting cast to do what it takes.  What it takes to win it all.

Peace out homies.  Six Two and Even!
