Ooo and it’s all right and it’s comin’ ‘long. We got to get right back to where we started from. Love is good, love can be strong. We got to get right back to where we started from. -Maxine Nightingale
Public Service Announcement: Ok, here we go! Red Sox. Red Sox/Angels. Wednesday night. I can’t wait. I just can’t wait to be king. I’m gonna be the mane event. Like no king was before. I’m brushing up on looking down. I’m workin’ on my roar.
I know. I know. I’m getting ahead of myself here. But geez. The Red Sox took first place on April 18. And there they stayed. There they stayed like Secretariat. Secretariat is blazing along! He is moving like a tremendous machine! Secretariat is all alone! Secretariat is in a position that seems impossible to catch. They’re in the stretch. Secretariat has opened a 22-length lead! Here comes Secretariat to the wire. An unbelievable, an amazing performance! The Sox led the league by as many as twelve. The Sox led the Bombers by as many as 14 1/2. They never lost it. You never got me down, Ray. Ya hear me? Never got me down.
At the end of the season, at the end of the season when they needed it most, they took care business. Taking care of business every day. Won the AL Beast. Taking care of business every way. Top seed in the playoffs. I’ve been taking care of business, it’s all mine. Taking care of business and working overtime.
Big Papi’s been working overtime. My favorite two words in the English language. Papi’s up. Before striking out twice and walking Sunday, Big Papi had reached base in twelve of his last thirteen plate appearances. Ten hits. Two walks. In his last thirty-three games, Big Papi has fourteen bombs. In his last thirty-three games, Big Papi has thirty-seven RBIs. Just in time. Just in time you’ve found me. Just in time before you came my time was running low. Just in time for the playoffs. You may think his numbers fell off. Think again. Drink again. Look pretty in pink again. He finished with a career high in batting average. He finished with a career high in on-base percentage. He finished with a career high in doubles. He finished with a career high in hits. He hit 35 taters and scored 116 runs. Not too shabby. He’s not the only one.
Manny RamÃrez and Kevin Youkilis are getting healthy once again. Coco Crisp has come back from a hip injury and a viral illness. J.D. Drew has been coming up as big as his contract. Dustin Pedroia is playing second base as solidly as any veteran in the game. Papelbon is the best closer in this post-season. The Red Sox starting staff is second to none. Wheels is shinin’. Deals we signin’. Money’s pilin’. Low, this is how we roll! Roll Sox, roll.
